Fabulous Friday: Sharks!

The CRRL is celebrating these “fin-tastic fish” at Fabulous Friday STEM classes in July. You will find out how sharks help maintain healthy oceans, range in size and shape, are threatened with extinction, and more. This is one of many activities that will help you complete the Shark Week mission and earn a badge and points for Summer Reading prizes.

Get Ready for Summer Reading at the Library

If you are like me and have children in your life, you are in the thick of a tremendously busy season: the end of the school year. Testing, concerts, recitals, graduations, award banquets, and field trips fill the calendar. It may seem a long way off with everything that is going on right now, but Summer Reading at the library is just around the corner.

Summer is a critical time to keep your child reading (avoid summer slide!), and the library wants to help children be motivated to keep reading all summer long. The first step is to visit librarypoint.org/summer.

Building a Wild World

For those of us who love nature and the outdoors, there are few things more satisfying than making the world a better place for local wildlife. Learning about wild animals and how to protect them is a joy for kids and families who are avid animal lovers!

This summer, the library is pleased to welcome The Wildlife Center of Virginia at our special upcoming Building a Wild World events. Join us to meet some of the animals that make Virginia their home and learn about ways that we can help protect their habitats. Sign up for these events begins June 1. Grades K-6.

Saturday June 10 is National Get Outdoors Day

National Get Outdoors Day (or GO Day) celebrates its 10-year anniversary on June 10, 2017! GO Day encourages healthy, active outdoor fun—from traditional outdoor activities, such as hiking, to non-traditional outdoor activities, such as reading your favorite book about nature or even having an outdoor, nature-related storytime!
